Herb Ley, Director of Men’s Brotherhood

Herb’s life took an eternal change when he accepted Jesus as His Savior at the age of 33, and from that point on, he has been thankful to have kingdom purposes placed on his heart by the Lord. Prior to coming to FBC, Herb served as a youth leader, Master Clubs teacher, Sunday School teacher, and deacon. He also founded the Wellsboro Teen Center in Wellsboro PA. Here at FBC, Herb serves as the Brotherhood Director, as AWANA TNT leader, and as a deacon.

The desire of Herb’s heart within the church is to facilitate gatherings of men, whether in book studies, men’s breakfasts, serving activities, or one-on-one coffee meet-ups, all with the intention of fostering spiritual growth to be stronger men of God and servant/leaders within their families, church, and community.

Prior to retirement, Herb started and operated a power equipment shop as well as an ice cream stand with fast food, mini golf, and a driving range. In 1993 he sold a product he had invented to an electronics company and became their employee for the next 32 years, with responsibilities in product conception, mechanical design, OEM sales, and qualifying of offshore factories and suppliers.

In 1981 Herb married his wife Rene, who worked side-by-side with him in many of their endeavors. Together they have raised four daughters and are blessed with eight grandchildren. They enjoy spending time together with their Cavalier King Charles pups, being on a boat in the lakes of Tennessee, and of course, visiting with family and friends. Over the years Herb and Rene have realized the shortness of life on this earth and make it a point to be gospel-forward with those they come in contact with, making the most of God-given opportunities.

One of Herb’s favorite Bible verses is Micah 6:8, “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”
